8th Grade Religion

“My brothers, what good is it for someone to say that he has faith if his actions do not prove it?”

This quote from the epistle of James is echoed in the title of one 8th Grade Religion textbook - WE LIVE OUR FAITH: AS MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH. This text, supplemented by a second one titled MORALITY: A COURSE IN CATHOLIC LIVING, provides direction for a student’s final year of religious instruction at the junior high level, with emphasis on a daily challenge to live a faith-filled life that shows itself in action, all of this set against a background of Church history beginning with the early Church and reaching to the present.

As heads of school families throughout the year, 8th Graders hopefully model for others faith in action. Christmas time finds them leading others in preparing the “Birthday Party For Jesus”, which brings joy and gifts to less fortunate children. Towards the end of the school year, their performance of the “Living Stations” dramatizes Christ’s love for us and our need to answer that call by reaching out to others with love and service.
